Road Closures for Waterford Viking Marathon 2026

 

TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ROADS

SECTION 75 ROADS ACT 1993

 

Notice is hereby given that Waterford City and County Council, in exercise of its powers pursuant to Section 75 Roads Act 1993, will close the following public road to through traffic roads on Saturday 20th June & Sunday 21st June 2026 during the times specified below to facilitate the holding of the Waterford Viking Marathon 2026.

 

Roads to be closed Saturday 20th June to Sunday 21st June Time
  • O Connell Street (L1502) From Vulcon Street to Thomas Hill/Hanover Street

 

 Saturday 4:00pm to Sunday 9:00pm
Roads to be closed Sunday 21st June Time
  • The Mall, Waterford (R680)
  • Parnell Street, Waterford (R680)

 

 6:00am to 10:30am
  • Bridge Street (R686)
  • Bilberry Road (L1501)
  • Grattan Quay (L1000)
  • Suir Street (L1500)
  • Mary Street (L90296)
  • Dyehouse Lane (L15002)
  • Penrose Lane (L90015) Anne Street to the Quay
  • Thomas Street (L5505) Anne Street to the Quay

Sallypark (R448) to Newrath Roundabout and from Newrath Roundabout on the R861 to Roundabout No. 12 at Grannagh and onto N25

Outbound Lane Closures in County Kilkenny Time  
The following roads in County Kilkenny will be subject to lane closures as follows:

A lane of the outbound carriageway of the R448 from Sallypark (at County Bounds) to Newrath Roundabout and a lane of the outbound carriageway of the R861 from Newrath Roundabout to Roundabout no. 12 at Grannagh and onto N25 westbound.

Please be aware there will be Traffic Disruption on the following Roads in Waterford City

  • R861
  • Roundabout No 12 on M9/N24/N25 at Grannagh
  • N25 at the Toll Plaza

 

Please be aware there will be Traffic Disruption on the following roads in County Kilkenny

R448/R861 Newrath Roundabout

 

 8.30am to 10.30am
Please be aware there will also be Traffic Disruption on the following Roads in Waterford City (Detours in place)

  • The Glen (L1503)

 

 8.00am to 2.00 pm

 

 

Alternative Route:        

Diversions will be in place on the day and local access will be maintained.
