Waterford Viking Marathon Launch 2026

The countdown is officially on for the 14th Waterford Viking Marathon, as WLR FM’s flagship running event returns bigger, better, and more inclusive than ever before.

Taking place over two action-packed days, the Waterford Viking Marathon will welcome over 5,500 participants, transforming the city into a true festival of running filled with energy, colour, and celebration.

Festivities begin on Saturday the 20th with the ever-popular Children’s Run at the Waterford Regional Sports Centre. On Sunday the 21st, the streets of Waterford will come alive with the Full Marathon, Full Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, 10km, and the much-loved Disability Friendly Run, which has been renamed, Waterford Run for All, now in its third year, celebrating accessibility and inclusivity for runners of all abilities.

The Waterford Viking Marathon is more than a race; it’s a celebration. Participants and spectators alike can expect festival vibes throughout the route, with live bands, DJs, and entertainment, and a party atmosphere at both the start and finish lines. Inclusivity, community spirit, and enjoyment are at the heart of the event, making it one of the most welcoming running festivals in Ireland.

The event continues to benefit from the unwavering support of WLR as title sponsor, alongside new official partner Sanofi. Ongoing backing from Waterford City Council, Clem Jacob Hire, Sun Life, Bausch and Lomb, Azzurri, Flahavan’s and new sponsor Jabil continues to play a vital role in the event’s success. The chosen charity partner for the event is the RNLI, all funds raised will go directly to the Waterford Lifeboat stations.
