Children's Run

The children’s run is taking part on a running track. We can’t support parents running with their children. The track is tight in space so it wouldn’t be fair to be taking up space and blocking other children from running. The children will be visible at all times when running the 200m, 500m and 1km route.

It is recommended for your child’s own health and well-being that they don’t run these distances until they are old enough. We are an Athletics Ireland officiated race so we must adhere to their rules.

Children’s Run to start at 9.30am in the Regional Sports Centre (RSC) Cork Rd, Kingsmeadow, Waterford.

200m, 6 to 8 year olds

500m, 8 to 10 year olds

1km, 11 to 13 year olds

2.5km, 13 years and up

Enter you child into their age group. If they feel the distance is too long, then drop them back to the distance below.

There is a charge of €6 per child.

Each child will receive an incredible Waterford Viking Medal. Their very own memento from the day to treasure.

Disability Friendly Run

This run may be suitable to those with learning difficulties, hearing or sight impairment or loss, wheel chair users, autistic community and many more. The list of supports available for the event are available here,

  • Separate start and finish points (to reduce crowds and possible overwhelm)
  • Waiver sought so that the runners can wear headphones/earbuds (to reduce sensory overload of unwanted sounds and to increase regulation with chosen sounds)
  • Extra stewarding
  • More visual signs every 500m to enable people who struggle with spatial awareness and direction (dyspraxia) to stay on track.
  • Toilets available at start, halfway and end of race.
  • Water stations set up at start, halfway and end of race.
  • Purple t-shirts are provided for participants so they were easily recognisable and can be supported appropriately.
  • Choice of walking or running the distance to allow for varying abilities.
  • Choice for the individual to bring a friend or family member to support them during the race. If the individual has no one they could bring but would like this support, we plan to have volunteers available to walk/run with small groups to provide support along the way.
  • We have a unit close to the start/finish line which will be set up as a quiet/regulation space (to enable regulation and recovery).

All participants will receive a t-shirt, medal and goodie bag.
