RNLI

RNLI

Charity Partner

RNLI lifeboat crews protect hundreds of communities around the UK and Ireland through our 24-hour search and rescue service. To do so, they rely on the safest, most reliable lifeboats and modern stations to launch from. This year the Waterford Viking Marathon has teamed up with the RNLI to raise funds for three local stations, Helvick Head station, Tramore station and Dunmore East Station.

While much has changed in 200 years, two things have remained the same – the charity’s dependence on volunteers, who give their time and commitment to save others, and the voluntary contributions from the public which have funded the service for the past two centuries.

“The RNLI is delighted to be the chosen charity for the Viking Marathon Running Festival. The charity operates three lifeboat stations in Waterford, at Dunmore East, Tramore and Helvick, with volunteer lifeboat crew at the ready to launch at any hour of the day or night, to save lives at sea. Funds raised from this event will support the vital service the RNLI provides, including crew training and the kit and equipment needed to continue saving lives off our coast. Our sincere thanks to the Viking Marathon crew and good luck to everyone taking part, we’ll see you there!”

Waterford Ireland 1783

Waterford Ireland 1783

Delighted to have Waterford Ireland partner with us again. The lucky winners of each race will receive a beautiful piece of crystal specially created for the Waterford Viking Marathon.

For over 250 years Waterford has been harnessing the powerful natural elements of Ireland to craft luxury crystal that dazzles and delights.

Waterford was established in 1783 on land adjacent to Merchants Quay in the heart of the Irish harbor town of Waterford. This location is just minutes from the present-day House of Waterford. Its founders were George and William Penrose, important developers and principal exporters in the city. Their vision was to “create the finest quality crystal for drinking vessels and objects of beauty for the home.” More than two hundred years later, the reputation they forged for creating luxury crystal of unsurpassed beauty and quality has echoed down the ages.
