The 2016 Marathon Course – Full Marathon

Start The Mall

All three events will commence together on The mall Waterford City.

From the Mall to Parnell St, Johns Street, Lady Lane Henrietta Street, Baileys New Street and onto The Quay at the iconic Reginald’s Tower. Along the Quay up Exchange Street, High Street (Mile 1) and down Conduit Lane to the quay Over to the infamous Clock Tower and up Barronstrand Street, Georges street, and down O’Connell Street to Penrose Lane and back out onto The Quay again.

Then along the banks of the River Suir and the Plaza (Mile 2) to The Tower Hotel and out Lombard St, William St onto The People Park past the front of the legendary School that is De la Salle College.

Then proceed onto Water Street up to Lower Newtown and back out onto the bus lane on Newtown Road and past the St Belinda’s Church and The Quakers Meeting House (Mile 3) onto Passage Road.

As you go along passage road you come to John’s Hill down the hill to St Otteran’s Place (Mile 4) and on to the People’s Park past the Fire Station and on to Parnell St right on Johnstown over John’s Bridge and continue up to Ballytruckle past the Old Infirmary (Mile 5) and towards The Folly Roundabout past the Sacred Heart Church, and onto Lower Grange. This is were we lose the quarter marathoners.

We then go up through St John’s Park, past the Butler Centre, and Johnsville FC (Mile 6) head towards the outer Ring Road down hill all the way to Couse Roundabout (Mile 7) and back into town via Old Tramore Road and past Kilcohan Greyhound Stadium and the fountain of knowledge that is the Ursline School (Mile 8).

After the Ursline School you run onto the Inner Ring Road and then onto the new Cycle track along the John’s River over the two bridges (Mile 9) coming out at The Black Rock and you head for the Ballindud Roundabout (Mile 10) This is were we Lose the Half Marathoners.

Marathoners then head towards Tramore past The Gracedieu Retreat Centre (Mile 11) and onto Ballykinsella (Mile 12) and up on to the OldTramore Road (Mile 13) and out at Pickardstown Cross (Mile 14) along to Sommerville Roundabout.

Left at Sommerville and freewheel all the way down to Tramore Beach via the new Bye pass (Mile 15) From here you get the 4 S’s Sun Sand Sea and Surfing onto the Prom past the new Life saving building and all the way along the Seafront up Strand Street (Mile 16) and up to Joe O’Shea’s.(NB not a water station a watering hole maybe! )

Then along Turkey Road (Not a feeding Station) across by the Front of Splashworld and The Majestic Hotel towards Tivoli and you turn right at the Pedestrian lights on to Crobally Mor.

Down Crobally Mor (Mile 17) out onto Riverstown and back down to the Beach Front and the welcoming crowd outside T-Bay surf School and Moe’s Cafe Down to the roundabout and back up the bye pass past McCarthy’ Fuels and on to the Sommerville Roundabout. Here you go left up to Tramore AFC and turn and cross the Road and back to Pickardstown (Mile 19)

Now that you are cruising back home via the main Tramore Road taking in (Miles 20 +21 ) and at Gracedieu Retreat Centre (Mile 22) you will be running down hill towards the finish and then you hit the Ballindud Roundabout (Mile23) and in towards Waterford.

Arriving at Kingfisher Sports Centre (Mile 24) you will hear the roar of the crowd willing you on to the finish, with just one lap of The Eco Park (Mile 25) left. Out of the Eco Park via the Recycling Centre out onto Ballybeg Drive and onto The RSC (Mile 26) via The Cork Road and when you hit the track you have just .2 of a mile left as you do you lap of the track to the applause of the crowd. You will have completed a marathon be it your first or your hundredth it is always a special moment.
