The Waterford Viking Marathon takes place on Sunday the 23rd of June 2024 at 9.00am in Waterford City. If you are doing the Virtual Event you can chose to run any time between the 21st and the 23rd of June 2024

We have a Quarter (10.5km), Half (21km) and Full Marathon (42km) event. You can walk, jog or run the quarter or half but running is only permitted for the full marathon.
Yes, you can register on the races page of our website. Registration for the virtual closes at midnight on the 9th June.
Yes. Whether you are running in Ireland or abroad your race pack will be posted to you. The pack will include one of our famous collector item medals and a gorgeous quality t-shirt.

Walkers are starting after the runners at 9am. However, in the virtual you can choose your own start time between 12.01am on June 24th to midnight on June 26th.
Completion cut off time for full marathon is 3.00pm, half and quarter marathon 1pm

You must be over the age of 18 to participate in any of the runs
There are no qualification requirements to take part in the event. We do recommend that you consult with your GP in advance of undertaking the challenge to ensure you are fit enough to take part and this event poses no risk to your health.
Our Charity Partner for 2024 is “As I Am” and “Autism Friendly Waterford” . There is an option for you to donate when you are registering. If you wish to raise money for your own chosen charity you are more than welcome to. However, there is no obligation to raise money for a charity.

Yes, details on this will be confirmed closer to the event. Please ensure that there are no valuable items in your bag and that your belongings are in a water proof bag as the WVM take no responsibility for loss or damage.
All race packs including t-shirt and goodie bag will be available for collection on the 21st and 22nd of June. You will be notified of the location a few weeks prior.
Strictly no refunds or transfer of registration as stated in terms and conditions. However, you can edit your ticket type or update your own registration details, up until 31st May, by logging in to your Eventmaster account.

Yes, walkers are very welcome in the half and quarter marathon, and they will start at the back, behind the runners to prevent holding anyone up.
Yes, there will be sign posts near the start line to point you in the right direction.
The start and the finish line are a 15 min walk apart, there is amble parking along the Quay & Waterside.

Closing date for all event runners is the 9th of June, and your post will just include your bib number. T-shirt and goodie bag can be collected prior event.

Yes, it has AIMS accreditation.
Yes, there will be two pacers available for each pace, Full, Half, and Quarter marathons!
Each pacer will carry a balloon displaying the desired pacing time. Locate your balloon at the start line on the Mall and slot in behind the pacer.
Full Marathon Pacers – Every 15 Minutes: 3.00, 3.15, 3.30, 3.45, 4.00, 4.15 and 4.30.
Half Marathon Pacers – Every 10 Minutes: 1.30, 1.40, 1.50, 2.00 and 2.10
Quarter Marathon Pacers - 45 mins, 50, 60, and 70
