WEEKSDAYSHRSMINSEC

Following months of planning the WVM committee were delighted with the positive feedback from participants and supporters following our event on Saturday June 28th. It was a memorable day for all involved and we hope all agree the atmosphere in the city was electric and the support from the people of Waterford was remarkable.

However, we were beyond disappointed to discover that the course for the Full Marathon was in fact .2miles short. Following investigation and re-measuring last week, we have discovered that due to the measurement of the course having been done in sections to accommodate the merging of 3 route distances, there was an error in the calculation of the distance required for the full marathon. The Half and the Quarter Marathon distances were correct.

We want to express our apologies to all full marathon runners that took part and we want to assure everyone that we are committed to investing as much of our resources as possible to ensure this mishap will not be repeated. We are liaising with the AAI again and have made contact with AIMS International to start the process of additional independent certified measurement of the 2015 course.

The WVM is organised by a voluntary committee and our event relies on the continued support from participants and sponsors. Our aim is to continue to build on the positives we have developed over the past three years, while also learning from our mistake, to make WVM one of the biggest and best events of its kind on the national running calendar. We strive to build on Waterford’s already robust running culture while developing a positive commercial impact in the City & County.
